MRCA Town Hall Meeting on Future Development
Time & Location
About the Event
The City of Calgary has prepared a new planning document called the “Guidebook for Great Communities”. This will become a foundational planning document when adopted by City Council and all future local area plans will reference its contents. It outlines a variety of residential districts, commercial areas and industrial areas in anticipation of redeveloping all of the inner city and established neighbourhoods. You can review this document and related materials at www.calgary.ca/guidebook
While we presently have (and are satisfied with them), the Lower Mount Royal Area Redevelopment Plan and the Upper Mount Royal Area Redevelopment Plan, the City plans to replace them with a new Local Area Plan, tentatively called the West Elbow Communities Local Area Plan. There will be upwards of 16 communities, including Lower Mount Royal and Upper Mount Royal, in this new plan which is expected to start work in early 2021. It will refer to the Guidebook in identifying areas for redevelopment and outline the nature of redevelopment, ranging from 3 storeys all the way up to more than 20 storeys in areas that are currently as allowing only single-family detached housing.
City Council will consider the Guidebook at its Public hearing on March 22, 2021. We intend, along with many other community associations to attend or submit our comments for City Council to consider. In order to truly represent the views of our community, the purpose of this town hall will be to allow for residents to better understand the changes and share their opinions with us before we determine our final commentary to the City.
Do you want to hear more about the Guidebook proposed to go to Council in March 2021 and share your views? Join MRCA at our Town Hall to learn more.
Wednesday, March 3 at 7 pm via Zoom
